If you follow the workflow I proposed (using the compendium) the work
load should be quite limited, and almost all translators I know work
this way (as one of many projects). 

If you encounter any question with manpages-l10n, do not hesitate to
appraoch me.

As Mario is the maintainer I leave it a few days to him to grant you
access. As he is quite busy currently, I'll do so around Wednesday.
